November 3, 2017

Ambassador Dina Kawar met with members of the Jordanian community in Detroit, Michigan last week during a visit organized by the Embassy in cooperation with the Honorary Consul of Jordan to Michigan, Mr. Habib Fakhoury, with the goal of reaching out to expatriate citizens and learn more about their needs.
Kawar began by conveying the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the members of the community  highlighting His Majesty’s pride and appreciation for their contributions and achievements. “You are all ambassadors of our beloved country and constantly represent Jordan in the best way,” Kawar stated as she underscored the value of the community’s contributions to Jordan’s development and economy.
Kawar  reviewed the latest developments in Jordan and the region, noting that the Kingdom is pressing ahead towards its goals, despite the difficult circumstances in our part of the world.  Ambassador Kawar also touched upon several initiatives aimed at serving the Jordanian community in Detroit, especially the second generation.
In her closing remarks, Kawar called on the Jordanian community members throughout the U.S. to register on the embassy's website for the purpose of developing communication mechanisms with the community and updating the embassy's database.
Ambassador Kawar also met, on the sidelines of the visit, with Michigan Lt. Governor Brain Calley, and Michigan senator Debbie Stabenow, as well as a number of leading figures in the state.    Kawar also attended the 38th annual gala of the Arab American Chaldean Council, which is headed by founder, president, and CEO Dr. Haifa Fakhouri, who immigrated to Michigan at the age of 23 from Jordan.
The ambassador's visit comes as part of a series of trips to see at first hand the Jordanian expats' needs across the United States.
