Washington, D.C. (January 23, 2018) - The International Program of the Cosmos Club in Washington D.C. hosted Ambassador Dina Kawar Tuesday evening as a guest of honor and speaker in their event titled, “Turning Challenges Into Opportunities: The Path Forward for Jordan.”
During her remarks, Ambassador Kawar underscored the vital role Jordan plays in the region as a model for perseverance, resilience and hope. “Through its balanced moderate politics, the strength of its institutions and ongoing reform programs, Jordan strives to be an oasis of stability,” Kawar said.
During these challenging times in the region, Ambassador Kawar stressed the importance of remaining steadfast in our efforts to move the peace process forward. Ambassador Kawar said, "Peace, security, stability and prosperity in the Middle East cannot come without resolving this conflict based on the two-state solution."
On the ongoing humanitarian crisis spillover of Syrian refugees, Ambassador Kawar stressed that although Jordan undertook several steps to mitigate the impact of hosting the refugees, the situation remains to be problematic as Jordan is faced with economic difficulties and a severely austere IMF program.
Kawar also highlighted how Islam is “a religion of mercy, peace, love & tolerance & above all, coexistence. These values are espoused by billions of Muslims around the world. Yet the true nature of this noble religion is perverted by falsehoods and misunderstandings.”
Attendees at the event included members of the Cosmos Club, diplomatic corps, former U.S. Officials, and Think-Tank and media representatives.
Ambassador Kawar extended her gratitude and appreciation for the organizers, attendees, and especially Chairman of the International Affairs Committee, Tim Tyler, Ambassador of Switzerland to the US, Joseph Gildenhorn and Mrs. Joseph Gildenhorn.
The Cosmos Club was founded in 1878 as a private social club for men and women distinguished in science, literature and the arts and public service. The International Program of the Cosmos Club hosts a monthly event with a speaker of international repute.
