AMMAN — The Amman International Stadium on Thursday will host a football match between renowned international football players and retired Jordanian footballers.
Organised by Tawasol for Media and Sports (Amman-Dubai), the match will be the "first of its kind" to be hosted by the Kingdom, according to  Mohammad Hasiba who is in charge of media relations for the event.
A total of 15 renowned footballers will participate in the match, including Hernán Crespo, Míchel Salgado, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert, according to organisers.
“It will be a good chance for football enthusiasts to watch these players at the stadium.
This match is the first of its kind to be held in Amman, as similar events have been held in other countries,” he told The Jordan Times on Tuesday.
Hasiba noted that this match will be held not only in Jordan, but also in Iraq.
“This is not the first time Tawasol organises such a match. There was a small difficulty to convince some of the participants to play here, but finally they agreed thanks to the efforts of the company,” he added.
Jordanian footballers who represented the national team during its golden era in 2004 will participate in the event on the Jordanian side against the international stars. Issa Turk will be the coach of the national team.
For Hasiba, given the popularity of football in Jordan and worldwide, the match will help improve the tourism sector.
Prices of tickets range between JD10 and JD50, Hasiba said, adding that 40 per cent of the proceeds will be given to charities.
