Embassy celebrates the marking the completion of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact in Jordan

The Embassy hosted a celebration marking the completion of the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact in Jordan. This five-year Compact was developed to alleviate Jordan's water scarcity and was concluded in December 2016. It succeeded in expanding the Al Samra wastewater treatment plant, rehabilitating over 1100KM of water pipes to minimize water loss, and benefiting 3 million Jordanians in the process.
In her welcoming remarks, Ambassador Dina Kawar said, “This project embodies the essence of His Majesty's vision for sustainable development in Jordan for the years to come.”
Ambassador Stuart Jones, Acting Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs described the project as a “gold standard” for what the United States should be doing and what U.S.-Jordanian partnerships should be doing which is improving lives.”
In conclusion, Jonathan Nash, Acting CEO of MCC hailed the achievement and commended the efforts of all those involved stating that “this really is an example of where the Jordanians and Americans have come together to do something really tremendous for the people of Jordan. Collectively what we were able to achieve during this five-year time frame is nothing short of remarkable.”
